CARBON
The construction of a carbon fiber called “carbon” consists almost entirely of grapheme, thanks to which the material is infusible, chemically resistant and, due to its highly organised structure, mechanically resistant.
Carbon, however widely known for years, is the material that year by year gains advantage over other ones. The biggest advantages of the above-mentioned are its durability and aesthetic values. Carbon fibers are applied as a construction material (reinforcement) in the lamination technology. Although light, the composite is really durable and that is why it is used in many branches of industry, while scientists are still looking for its new ways of application.
The material is used among others in aircraft; propellers, special reinforcements to wings and fuselages are made of it. In automotive carbon is crucial in the production of car bodies’ elements (mirrors, hoods, bumpers, spoilers) because it can significantly reduce the weight of a car and, as a result, is guarantees bigger efficiency on a track. Currently it is mostly applied in the production of Formula 1 cars, in which significant are characteristic to carbon low weight and durability. Moreover, due to its aesthetic values automotive industry applies carbon in a car interior design.
Carbon is also popular in the sailing industry, in which it is used in the production of yachts’ elements such as: rudders, boats’ hulls and masts.
The last worth mentioning places in which the described material is applied are wind farms, which use carbon blades in wind turbines.
CARBON ADVANTAGES:
- lightness,
- durability,
- chemical resistance,
- high temperature resistance,
- high thermal and electrical conductivity,
- high aesthetic values.
These and many others advantages make that carbon is worth investing due to its unlimited abilities.
